We complain about our salaries not keeping up with inflation, with medical costs zapping our paychecks and with boredom on the job.
We’re not challenged, not paid enough and don’t feel appreciated or valued. Some of us even dislike our bosses and co-workers, and count the hours until we can clock out.
Does any of this sound familiar? Can you identify with the discontent or know someone who’s in the same jam? You can ignite the enthusiasm.
Transform the dullness you feel at work and stir up passion. Get more job satisfaction without changing companies or your career.
Here are a few quick tips to brighten your work day :
1. What Not To Expect:
Stop looking for ways for other people to make your life and work more satisfying and meaningful! That’s not happening.
Don’t wind up disappointed and frustrated because you expect someone else to do it for you.
Your boss isn’t responsible for your happiness and neither are your co-workers.
2. YOU Are In Charge:
Decide that you’re in charge of you and in how you feel about what you’re doing.
It’s true, even if you try to blame someone else for your misery. Your attitude plays a major role in viewing your job differently.
Determine that you’re in charge of how you see your job. Take back that control and empower yourself. No one else can do it for you.
3. Find the Jewel:
Look on the positive side of your job, even if the pluses are few. Maybe you get a regular pay check, benefits, such as medical insurance, a paid vacation or job flexibility.
Make a list of what your job does offer you and how you and your family benefit in some way.
Keep the list handy and when you’re discouraged look at it as a reminder of the value of your job.
4. Stop Complaining:
If you’re complaining all the time, you’re not doing yourself or anyone else a favor, so snap out of it.
No one likes to be around someone who brings them down and is always finding fault. You won’t even like your own company if you keep up the sad sack routine.
Come to work with an upbeat attitude and find something positive about the job or your co-workers to talk about. You may surprise yourself and alter your mood.
Muster up your enthusiasm at work-it’s contagious & may change your day, the work climate around you & create more enthusiasm in your co-workers.
5. Focus:
If you can, focus on the annoying, dreary tasks first and get them out of the way. Save the job responsibilities that you enjoy until last and savor them.
Think about how you can improve you on the job –more education, learning something new, contributing in a novel way.
Find out how you can use your skills and talents more effectively at work. Keep in mind that it’s all up to you!
6. Take Pride
Everyone likes to be needed. Most jobs offer a service or something that people need to better their lives.
Take pride in what you do and consider how it benefits others. Decide that people need what you do no matter how trivial you think your job is.
Remember, life on the job can be more upbeat if you consciously decide to do something about it. Start by changing your perception of it.
Your job is not the only feature of your life. Enjoy the other elements and the special people in it. Take time to enjoy all that life has to offer.
