Success is not the same for everyone. Success is personal and relative. We all have different measures of success.
Not only is it different for each person; it may be different for each area of our lives such as work, relationships, children, partnerships, financial, etc.
It’s important to know what your definition of success is to find out how to attain it. When you have a working definition, you’ll know when you’ve arrived and have achieved it.
How do you measure your own success? Is it by money in your bank account, investments, inner peace, valued friends and relationships? Is it about a strong sense of personal worth or freedom? Is it something else and something more?
Success is also measured by standards and other’s perceptions that are external. Accomplishment or achievement of a goal or purpose is one measure. The attainment of popularity or profit is another.
Your own internal standards of success cannot be overlooked. Before you can master anything, whether it’s cooking, teaching, painting, parenting or running a business, you need to know what it means to you. Knowing what success means personally leads you closer to the answer and closer to mastery.
Don’t forget the feelings you have inside of you when you feel at peace, contented, accomplished and loved. These are important personal variables to consider that make up a successful life and a successful you.
Ultimately, the answer is up to you and is also based on something you feel that resonates with you, who you are and with your important values or principles.
We need to remember that success is not some fixed moment of arrival. It’s also about recognizing and getting comfortable with the idea that success is a process, a journey of growth, discovery and challenge. We can achieve small successes in the different life domains that add value to our lives and others. Applaud each of your successes along the way!
