Balance Your Emotions

“Balance Your Emotions” White ©2010

Are you stressed out, frustrated, angry or just out of sorts? We already know that stress comes from many different sources such as concern or worry over finances, work and relationship difficulties. Stress takes shape in us in many different ways including overeating, mood swings, foggy thinking, exclusion and even physical pain.

The good news is that you have the ability to reset your mood. However, before you let them go, be aware of what the emotions are. Acknowledge and claim the unwanted feelings before moving on. Gain more understanding and insight so you are not in the dark about your feelings but are conscious of what affects you.

Adopt New Habits:
In Chinese medicine, the liver is considered the seat of emotional expression.  A healthy   liver can naturally balances your emotions and helps to release suppressed emotions. If your liver is clogged up with too much fat, sugar or alcohol, it can’t do its job effectively. Your emotions may run wild. Think about making some changes in your habits and lifestyle. The changes don’t have to be monumental at first; you can ease into them gently.  Doing so is one way to help you regain emotional balance

Create Healthy Outlets:
Emotions can get locked or blocked in the body and become health concerns later on if   they’re ignored. When they don’t get resolved, they create too much heat in the body, causing imbalance. Find ways to release these pent-up emotions.  Exercise, massage, yoga and tai chi are some ways to get the energy flowing in your body once again.

Physical activity and exercise improve self-image and help release endorphins or the natural mood elevators that your body makes. Exercise can improve the blood flow to your brain giving you more mental alertness and energy. Meditation and other relaxation techniques can be vital role to help you reclaim your balance.

Make Time-Out:
Even the most active of us get overtired, feel rushed and may miss meals due to a demanding schedule. These can increase your emotional stress. You need to balance them with activities that are restorative such as rest and relaxation. Make time and create your own personal ways to relax. Don’t settle for a flimsy excuse that there isn’t enough time. There never is enough time unless we make it. Reserve some quality time just for you!

Express How You Feel:
It seems simple but how often do you suppress what you feel?  You may do so because you don’t want to hurt someone or are too timid or wary of the outcome. Whatever the reason, that feeling goes unexpressed and takes root in your mind and body. Learn how to be comfortable when expressing your hurt, anger or upset without blame or attack. These will only alienate the other person and you won’t be heard. Take charge of what you need and make it a habit of speaking up.

Feel Accomplished:

Do something consistently that make you feel in charge and competent and good about yourself. It doesn’t have to earth shattering. A small task completed, an act of kindness even adhering to your schedule can help you feel more competent and capable. Include more activities that build you up and contribute to a better feeling about you.

 Just Breathe:
Your breath can affect your metabolism and can make you feel better. Deep breathing can be done anywhere and can help you calm down and feel more in control to handle the day-to-day events and challenges. Take a few moments and just tune into your breath, slowing it down and breathing less shallowly. The increased oxygen can help you feel better fast.
